olympic rain forest

Before one of my workshops, I always make a point of getting to the location at least one day prior to the beginning of the event. You never know when a road may be closed, or an area that I may have been to a few weeks or months earlier has changed. The Olympic Peninsula is one place that is forever changing due to the weather ( it really rains a lot here!).

Besides that, it gives me a chance to get out, by myself and make some images in an area that,  though rather close to my home I only get to a few times per year due to other travel and commitments.

Once again, I am conducting a workshop coming up in May ( May 9 – 12) that I am really looking forward to.

Early May is a great time of year to be on the Olympic Peninsula since its just at the beginning of the end of our rainy season, but still wet enough to make the rain forests dynamic ( the rain really makes the greens pop ). Some rain is actually our friend when in the rain-forest  In May we are pretty much guaranteed at least one or 2 decent sunsets out on the coast. As well, the road up to Hurricane Ridge will now be open for a great sunrise shoot.

All in all, its a great time to be here. Many of the locations we photograph are ones I love to take folks to that are off the beaten path and not in the tour books. Some of the thousands of forest service roads with the area are packed with photographic opportunities without the crowds. If you want this experience, come on along with us. I can guarantee you my workshops are quite different from some of the others who run workshops here. Most of the folks who run events here, don’t live here and don’t know the secret spots that I ( and some of the other local leaders) do.

Basically, we run a very unique photography workshop HERE on the Olympic Peninsula!

We have just a few spaces left. Click HERE to register.

TIP: if you come on out to the area I recommend staying at the PACIFIC INN in Forks, WA. For many years, the Pacific Inn is my home away from home when I get to come out here.  The folks who run this hotel are simply the best. The rooms are newly renovated, the Wi-FI is great. Forks is centrally located to get to the best photographic locations. Tell the “Jack” sent you!

Below are some VERY recent images, not published until now from the area. Its magical!

Please join us on May.
